Converting an Old General Store Counter Into a Kitchen Island

It’s never too late to find a new passion, career, sport, hobby or purpose in life. I really feel that to be true, and applied that same principle to an old general store counter that I found on facebook marketplace.

After spending about 25 hours cleaning the cabinet (it had spent considerable time stored in a barn), I sent the counter to the Country Workshop, an Amish cabinet making company, to have it sealed and fitted with drawer stoppers.

I love that the cabinet is originally from southern Illinois, is almost a 100 years old, and has had about 3-4 different carpenters work on it in the past.

Once the carpenter was done with the drawers, I had a custom quartz waterfall counter made for it, and installed on site.

It’s quite possibly my favorite piece in the whole house and really helps add aged character to our newly built #modernfarmhouse style home.

There is still so much life left in this bad boy and I love how it keeps our kitchen organized and clutter-free.
